Since the Farm was first established a closed flock of the very best birds selected from our own rearing fields each year has been maintained.

They are overwintered in low density pens planted with game crops and a large woodland area providing the birds with feed and cover. The birds thrive in this natural environment and are in top condition when moved to the laying pens each spring. Keeping a closed flock has enabled us to retain pure strains and disease-free birds.

We stay independent in hatching eggs and do not need to rely on imported stock thanks to our philosophy of always keeping adequate breeding stock to generate enough eggs to meet the needs of our own hatchery. If there was an issue with importing from Europe, we have the capability produce enough eggs in house to meet all of our demands for eggs, chicks and poults.
